FINRA records confirm that former Sagepoint Financial broker Timothy Dufresne, in South Carolina, has been permanently barred from the securities industry and from giving financial advice. Timothy Dufresne worked more than 15 years as a financial advisor and last worked for Sagepoint Financial in Bamberg, South Carolina (2008-2016). Previously he worked for American General Securities in West Bend, Wisconsin (2002-2008). He is currently not registered with any state or firm, so he cannot work as a financial advisor or broker.

In April 2016, FINRA sanctioned Timothy Dufresne following complaints that he “converted at least $400,000 from customers by improperly obtaining distributions of funds from the customers’ variable annuities, depositing the funds in his business account, and using the funds for his own benefit without the customers’ authorization.” According to FINRA’s complaint, Mr. Dufresne obtained checks totaling $400,000 through distribution request forms, endorsed each check, and deposited the funds into his business account. He was permanently barred from acting as a broker or giving financial advice. Of course.

In March 2016, Timothy Dufresne was terminated from his position at Sagepoint Financial following complaints that withdrawals were made from an annuity contract which the client could not account for at all.
